 LESSON PLAN
Topic: Thermal Power Plant
Name of Teacher : RAJESH KUMAR                                    Subject : Work Education
Class : X  (A,B,C )                                                                   Month:    April  2017

Pre-requisites/Recap
·         What are the sources of electricity?
·         Which type of energy resource i.e. fossil fuels used by the power plants?

 Introduction
·         A Thermal Power Plant converts heat energy of coal in to electrical energy. Coal is burnt in a Boiler which converts water in to steam. The expansion of steam produces a mechanical power which drives the alternator coupled to the turbine. Thermal power plant contributes 75.43% of the total captive and non captive power generation of India. In thermal power plant coal, oil and natural gas are used as a primary source of energy.
Teachers role
·         Explain the role of power plants as a source of energy.
·         Explain the working principal of Thermal power plant.
·         Explain how chemical energy of coal is converted in to electrical energy.
·         Explain the function of various equipments of power plant
·         Demonstrate the working of TPP through PPT
·         Inform the students regarding major Thermal Power Plants in India in respect of its location and power generating capacity.
Students role
·         Student should be able to know the role of power plants to satisfy energy demand of the country
·         To recognized different types of power plants and its contribution in the total power generation
·         Types of  fuel used in different various power plants
·         Aware about important equipments of TPP and its function
Objectives
·         Describe the sources of energy
·         To explain the working principal of power plants
·         To know how conversation of energy takes place.
·         Create awareness about important stages of power plant
Resources used:
  • Power point presentation
  • Chart showing important equipments and working cycle of power plant

Expected Outcomes
  • Upon completion of this topic, the student will be able to explain how Thermal Power Plant works
·         What is the working principal of TPP
·         How chemical energy of coal is converted in to mechanical energy and finally in to electrical energy
·         What is the total contribution of TPP in satisfying energy requirement of the country
·         Know about advantages and limitations of TPP

Activities
  • Identify the resources of power generation
  • Collect information about different types of power plants available in India
  • Demonstrate important equipments of power plants and explain its function
Assessment
·         Ask student to explain the ways through which electricity can be produced.
·         Ask student to explain the function of Boiler, Turbine and Generator
·         To find out the location of Thermal Power Plant in its power generating capacity in Jamnagar district.
Home Task
·         Prepare charts showing various stages and equipments of TPP
·         Prepare the list of major TPP located in India
·         Prepare notes on environmental impacts of TPP
